BUDGET ALERT! YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED!

Attention ACCCA Members – We Need Your Help to Restore $80 Million in Community College Funding.

The Senate and Assembly budget subcommittees have completed their work on the 2007-08 community college budget.  The budget adopted by the respective houses will now be reconciled in the budget conference committee.  Based on the actions of the budget subcommittees, ACCCA is encouraging its members to support the Assembly’s version of the community college budget.

The Assembly version of the budget restores $80 million in base apportionments that was eliminated from the community college system budget in the Governor’s May Revise.  The Senate took action to reduce $80 million in the current year.

Other reasons to support the Assembly’s version:

The Assembly also provided growth and COLA (cost of living adjustment) for apportionments (growth roughly 3.5% and COLA 4.53%) and categorical programs (growth 2.0% and COLA 4.53%)

  • Subcommittee approved $33.1 million for basic skills initiative
  • Includes ongoing funds for career development and college prep of $18 million
  • Includes $5 million in ongoing funds for part time faculty health benefits
  • Includes $5 million in ongoing funds for part time faculty office hours
  • Includes $152.7 million in one time funds as provided for in the Governor’s May Revise
